The menstrual cycle consists of coordinated hormonal changes across two phases: the follicular phase (pre-ovulation) and the luteal phase (post-ovulation). Menstrual cycle length is defined as the number of days from the first day of one period up to the first day of the next period.
Ovulation is the release of a mature oocyte (egg) from the dominant ovarian follicle. It is triggered by a sudden surge in Luteinizing Hormone (LH) secreted by the pituitary gland.
